Becoming a Bernedoodle Breeder
In 2020, after many years of working as a nurse at a busy hospital, I decided it was time to try something new, something that for years I had secretly wanted to do but hadn’t thought was possible…breeding dogs! Fall of 2020 I made the leap and bought my first poodle, and its been an amazing adventure ever since.
Why Bernedoodles? Originally I had thought I would only breed Standard Poodles, but after a good friend told me that she had hoped her next dog would be a Bernedoodle (she is now a guardian home for my F1B Bernedoodle stud Fitz), I looked more in to the Bernese Mountain Dog and realized I definitely wanted this breed to be a part of my life and my program. Along with their beauty and sweet nature, I appreciated that they tend to have a moderate energy level and easy going nature.
Mixing the Bernese Mountain Dog with a poodle is a way to enjoy many of the Bernese qualities, while at the same time eliminating shedding, potentially improving their life span, and bringing down their size when bred with a smaller poodle. As well, because the average Bernese Mountain Dogs tends to be a bit lower energy than the average poodle, the mix has the potential for a more moderately active dog, which is a great fit for many families.
